This Week: Karen Starosta-Gilinski at Art & Culture Center of Hollywood

The not Dumb, 2012
This coming Friday June 8, 2012, between 6PM and 9PM, the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood will present Miami-based artist Karen Starosta-Gilinski’s exhibition entitled “Cloud 9,” a series of sculptures inspired by her 2009 creations.
The sculptures include alterations of textured objects that when added together create other sub-pieces.
In her exhibition, Starosta makes use of intense colors, such as yellow and red, using mixed media materials inclusive of semi-precious stones that add brightness.
Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota and raised in Venezuela, Starosta-Gilinski holds a BFA Cum Laude degree from the Miami University of Art & Design.
At a first glance, her work seems cute, innocent and whimsical but in the end it is deep and mysterious.
She digs deep into one’s psychological and personal aspects exploiting our traits that range from tender and sweet to dark and complicated.
Art and Culture Center of Hollywood is located at 1650 Harrison St.
Hollywood, FL 33020
